He stood out as a television writer in high school, and produced numerous TV programs such as "The Best 10".
Since 1983, as a lyricist, he has produced many hit songs including "kawa no nagare no yoni" sung by Hibari Misora, "WILL" by Mika Nakashima, and "EXIT" by EXILE.
In November 2008, he won the Grand Prix of the 41th Japan Lyricist Awards for the song "Umiyuki", performed by Jero.
In December 2009, he won the special award of the 51st Annual Japan Record Awards along with AKB48.
In 1991, he debuted as a movie director for "Goodbye, Mama", starred by Keiko Matsuzaka and Ken Ogata.
"Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call)" is a film, based on his series novel.
In April 2005, he became a professor of Kyoto University of Art and Design, and in April 2007, he was appointed to vice-president.
He has been successful in a wide range of fields such as planning of the TV program "Tunnels Thanks to Everybody" and writing regularly for magazines.
He also serves as overall producer of idol groups, SKE48, SDN48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48.
He has written many books including the novels "Zou no senaka" (FUSOSHA) and "Kikaku nou" (PHP).
